Elite: Dangerous Preview on Oculus Rift DK2

Added: 02.08.2014 4:13 | 4 views | 0 comments

The Rift Arcade - Where do we begin when describing Elite: Dangerous? Its just vast. Humongous. Epic. Want an example? How about the fact that the game is set in a 1:1 scale representation of our own Milky Way, with around 100 billion star systems to explore, including our own. Players take on the role of a pilot who can explore the galaxy at will, join factions, become a pirate, a spy, a trader or whoever and whatever they want to be. They start with a ship of their own, but can upgrade or buy new ships, dock and visit space stations; and because the game is one massively multiplayer title theyll see other players going about their business, attack each other and join up for fun. Were only just scratching the surface of what Elite: Dangerous enables players to do, we havent even mentioned the ability to land on planets and walk around on foot (coming in an expansion pack at some point).

Euro Truck Simulator 2 Gets Oculus Rift DK2 Support

Added: 01.08.2014 7:13 | 3 views | 0 comments

The Rift Arcade - It's time to get trucking, because finally, Euro Truck Simulator 2 has been updated for the DK2. There's a reason why we're excited about this release, because while Euro Truck Simulator 2 worked just fine on the DK1, the headsets low-resolution screen made it impossible to read in-game text, see the satellite navigation or predict up-coming turns in the road. Now, the team at SCS Software has managed to implement support for the Oculus Rift DK2. Okay, so it's not perfect just yet, it only works in desktop-extended mode, and it's only once you're sat in the drivers seat that head-tracking kicks in, but once it does it's worth all the hassle, because Euro Truck Simulator 2 is finally legitible in VR. It's now easy to see the speedometer, read the sat-nav or spot an on-coming car in the wing mirror; and because of the positional-tracking feature of the DK2, it's now possible to lean forward to look out of the window, peer over the steering wheel at the road ahead.

VRFocus - Last week FOVE, a head-mounted eye-tracking display, was linked to Microsoft as the tech's creators were accepted into Microsoft Ventures London, which helps tech start-ups.
